This season, the Cordouan lighthouse gives carte blanche to the sculptor Jephan de Villiers. Artist and poet, his work plunges us into an imaginary world where man and nature are one.
After having welcomed the photographer and calligrapher Nicolas Camoisson in residence in 2021, SMIDDEST wishes to support the second part of his work. This time, the project focuses on enhancing the biodiversity of the Cordouan foreshore. A look back at an art and nature residency.
In small groups, during themed guided tours, discover the Cordouan lighthouse through recent or historical restoration work.
Plovers, limicolous birds freshly arrived from their African wintering grounds, are back at Cordouan. Indeed, they have chosen the vast expanses of sand off Cordouan to build their nests.
The eggs, which resemble large pebbles, are currently being incubated. Other broods could also take place until 15 July.
A new souvenir medal issued at the end of 2021 celebrates the inscription of the Cordouan lighthouse on the World Heritage List.
Our offices will be closed from December 17th to January 3rd.
We wish you a happy festive season and will be back soon with lots of good resolutions (which we promise to keep!).
Cordouan arouses the imagination and represents an infinite source of inspiration for contemporary artists.
SMIDDEST invited the éclats company to spend a day between land and sea to work on its creative project entirely dedicated to the lighthouse: the “Voices of Cordouan”. A look back at a day out of time…
The 44th session of the World Heritage Committee and its 21 member states have just decided: the Cordouan lighthouse has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List!
Cordouan joins other sites such as the Taj Mahal, the Grand Canyon or the Great Wall of China on the prestigious List, which designates properties of exceptional interest for the common heritage of humanity.
What better way to (re)discover Cordouan than with a guided tour? In 2021, the SMIDDEST team has put together a program of guided tours to help you discover the site in greater depth.
Nicolas T. Camoisson, photographer and calligrapher, is invited to take up a residency at Cordouan from May 28 to June 6, 2021. 10 days at the lighthouse, isolated between land and sea, to allow him to feed his artistic creation project on the theme of the sea.
To reveal its signature and assert its values, Cordouan plays it 2.0!
From March 8 to 11, all the networks and other partner channels presented the values of the lighthouse through four video clips. The lighthouse’s signature has been revealed since March 12. For the occasion, our website has been revamped!
